Zinke Narrowly Leads Olszewski in Race Still too Close to Call
Lincoln County, which has about 5000 votes up for grabs is having issues with its reporting and was unable to report last night.
As of 2:20 am, Ryan Zinke has a narrow lead over Al “Doc” Olszewski, for the newly created second seat in the U.S. House, edging the former state senator 42.3 % to 39.1 % or by about 2000 votes by 65% of precincts reporting. Mary Todd is a distant third with just 10% of the vote.
Lincoln County, which has about 5000 votes up for grabs is having issues with its reporting and was unable to report last night. It is unclear which candidate has the most support there, and for which person they lean.
The results should be nail-biting to Zinke, who overspent Dr. Al by millions of dollars and was widely considered the incumbent, on account of having previously won the house seat by a 16% margin back in 2017 before Trump picked him for interior secretary- a job he was later fired from resigned on account of having so many ethics complaints. Still, Trump did endorse him this time around, which is why he even has a fighting chance against his more conservative, honest, and competent competitor.
In April, Zinke raised $2.5 million to Olszewski’s $678,000 and his super PAC brought in $360,000 compared to Olszewski’s $ 11,500.
Olszewski is leading by a large margin in the voter-rich Flathead County, but Zinke has firm leads in Missoula, Gallatin and Ravalli, as well as holds large leads in a series of smaller counties.
