Private: Pastor Who Insists All People Are Born Racist and Who Hired Illegal Immigrant to Pastoral Role Announces Candidacy for SBC Prez.
The lead pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, Clint Pressley, has thrown his hat into the ring to become the next President of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Representing the establishment wing of the convention and the quintessential company man, Pressley has a long track record of doing things we don’t like, including planning on nominating Willy Rice to the SBC presidency prior to deacongate, hiring an illegal immigrant at his church to be his youth pastor, and praising the leadership of the ERLC and Russell Moore on several occasions. Moore and the beast he led have been instrumental in liberalizing the SBC, reducing giving, and provoking conservative Christians to wrath, yet Pressley has been nothing but publicly supportive.
Notably, he also insisted that because all people are born ‘sinners’ they are also born ‘racist,’ which is ‘if-then logic’ that only follows if he would also affirm that because we are born sinners, we are also born as pedophiles, suggesting a general ontological depravity must necessitate a personal struggle with the breadth of all known sin.
Perhaps the only consolation to a potential Pressley victory is that he supports the Mike Law amendment, which would bar women pastors from the SBC.
Yet, given his track record and the fact that he is so well-liked and respected by so many enemies of the SBC that reside within the SBC, we can see him being swayed or supporting a compromise real fast.
