Op:Ed- Montana’s Faithful Politicians Attend CPAC, Put in Some Prayers
It’s nothing but ashes if you don’t believe the Gospel.
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has come and gone, where thousands of conservatives headed down to Florida for the megaconference that included the who’s who of big-name Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Donand Trump Jr, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, etc. It was an exciting time for attendees of the extravaganza, whose theme was ‘Awake, not Woke’ and served as an early celebration. After all, Republicans are barrelling headfirst towards the midterms with all the momentum in the world. They have a historically unpopular incumbent President and dozens of Democrat candidates announcing they’re not running for re-election, lest they get drowned by the massive right-wing wave that’s about to absolutely crush them. If that’s not invigorating, nothing is.
And yet the conference was not all speeches, merch, or machination. Rather, for many, it served as a time of prayer and reflection; attending so that they might seek to represent their state and their districts well. For this reason, it was wonderful to see several of our favorite politicians attend and get amped up in the best way possible: Rep. Kerri Seekins Crowe, Sen. Theresa Manzella, Rep. Lola Sheldon-Galloway, Rep. Steven Galloway, and Rep. Braxton Mitchell.
To us, it indicates the passion that they have and that they are true believers in conservative values and the culture itself. It’s not mere lip service, with their beliefs and position statements put forward as an unconvincing punditry, but rather authentic, legitimate, ‘I-feel-this-down-to-my-soul-and-I-want-to-show-it’ energy. In fact, Manzella won an award for “Conservative Excellence” by CPAC and the American Conservative Union Foundation, on account of her exemplary conservative voting record.
You love to see it, and it’s just another small way in which we feel assured that these politicians are some of the good ones and can be counted on to stand firm when the weight and power of the Democratic machine are thrown against them to crush their ideals and convictions.
More importantly, however, is that it was nice to see that we have representatives who take their God even more seriously than politics. We don’t know all who took part in that, but we know some of them did. Politics are essential, and the battles, blood, sweat, and tears that go into wrenching a culture and State away from the progressive precipice and instead to stand on the firm foundation of our Founding Fathers is not something to be discounted or minimized. That can frequently be a long, painful, and agonizing work.
But it pales in comparison to that which is truly important and has eternal value. What does the scripture say? “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?“
It’s nothing but ashes if you don’t believe the Gospel. Christ came into the world to redeem it so that men and women might repent of their sins and put their faith and trust in God alone for their salvation. Above laws and legislation, that is what’s important, and when we see our leaders lifting up their lives to the Lord and praying for his help and guidance, we want nothing more than to shout out a ‘Yea’ and ‘Amen.’
They’re doing God’s work, and nothing could make us happier.
