Oklahoma Ethics Commission Documents Reveal SBC Prez. Bart Barber Contributed to Political Opponent of SBC Pastor Dusty Deevers
SBC President Bart Barber regularly skirmishes with abortion abolitionists, misrepresenting the views of abolitionists and carrying water for elements of the incrementalist pro-life movement that would see abortion continue into perpetuity under strict regulation. Over the past year, Barber has vocally opposed the abolitionist efforts of Pastor Dusty Deevers, who is running for Oklahoma State Senate. In response to those who believe that he is misusing his position of power for political purposes against the likes of Pastor Deevers, Barber has pushed back, claiming that he and the SBC are apolitical when it comes to candidates.
However, Bart Barber’s claims of political neutrality are quickly unraveling, as it has been recently revealed that the SBC president, who pastors and resides in Texas, has been meddling in Oklahoma elections. Following Dusty Deevers’ victory in the primary election, Larry Bush, Deevers’ Democrat opponent in the upcoming general election, began his attacks against Deevers, using the words of SBC President Bart Barber, as quoted in leftist faux news outlet Baptist News Global.
The fact that the words of an SBC President are being used in support of a far-left Democrat candidate who is a proponent of abortion shows how far the SBC has fallen. Oklahoma is a heavily Southern Baptist State, with nearly 1 out of 5 Oklahomans belonging to a Southern Baptist Church. Larry Bush’s calculated use of Bart Barber’s words is intended to split the vote of conservatives, who would typically support a conservative candidate like Deevers.
Oklahoma Ethics Commission monetary reports cast further doubts on Bart Barber’s neutrality, showing that Barber has, in fact, donated $100 to the campaign of Deevers’ primary candidate opponent, Jean Renee Hausheer, a moderate Republican who was a proponent of strict COVID-era lockdown measures. Biden administration vaccine mandates for private employers. Hausheer is so far to the left in the Republican party that last year, she personally donated $1,000 to Joy Hofmeister, a Democrat who ran a gubernatorial campaign on the basis of legalizing abortion in the state of Oklahoma.
In a time when ERLC President Brent Leatherwood is abusing his authority at the ERLC in a rogue campaign for gun control, and SBC institutionalists are plotting to destroy or neuter the Mike Law amendment to allow for the membership of churches with female pastors in the convention, SBC President Bart Barber and the leadership of the SBC are showing their true colors. The effect of theological downgrade in the SBC is evident. Will God save the convention for his glory, or will he destroy it for his glory?
