Monday afternoon into Tuesday evening could prove dangerous, meaning downed trees and power outages, so prepare ahead of time.
A brief ridge of high pressure will be in place on Sunday. This will result in partly cloudy skies and highs in the 50s. This will be a good day to prepare ahead of time for potentially damaging winds that will arrive Monday evening into Tuesday.
We are tracking a cold front that will bring snow and damaging wind to western Montana Monday night and Tuesday. The front will arrive Monday afternoon. Most valley locations will see gusts over 40 mph with isolated gusts over 50 mph when the front passes Monday afternoon. This raises the concern for downed trees, power outages, and very choppy lake conditions. At the same time, mountain passes will see a transition over to snow by Tuesday morning, with 5-10″ possible on the passes along the Montana-Idaho state line through Tuesday. This, in combination with the gusty winds, will lead to hazardous mountain pass travel at times. Snow will also be possible in valleys, with accumulations staying on the lighter side.
