National “This and That” Day-Seriously?
Have you ever wondered what’s up with all these ‘National Days’?
Have you ever wondered what’s up with all these ‘National Days’?
In just the past couple of days, they’ve announced ‘National Sugar Cookie Day’ and ‘National FreezePop Day.’ Just imagine what the power of suggestion accomplishes. Millions of Americans probably ran out, and purchased cookies and freezer pops!! (I know I almost did until I came to my senses!) However, I did almost cave in when I drove past the “Crumbl Cookie” store today.
The point is this. When I was a kid, we suffered through life with just the basics! (Although happily for us kids, most were sugar-laden ‘National Days’ such as Valentines, Halloween, and Mother’s Day because dad brought candy home for mom.
We also had the regular “history” days, like Columbus and President’s Day and Martin Luther King, etc., all the basics.
Kids nowadays get uber groovy days like those mentioned above ‘National Sugar Cookie Day’ ‘Freezer Pop Day’ and ‘Siblings Day!’
There is also a slew of food days (something for everyone). March 21st is ‘National French Bread Day’ followed by ‘June 7th, which is ‘National Chocolate Ice Cream Day’ and ‘August 2nd is the coveted ‘National Ice Cream Sandwich Day.’
In fact, ice cream is so popular that Ronald Reagan coined the full month of July as ‘Ice Cream Month’ in 1984.
June 19th is ‘National Martini Day’ while July 24th is ‘National Tequila Day!’
And then there are the weird days such as October 15th, ‘Global Handwashing Day.’ Seriously, who gives a rip about that except hand sanitizer companies trying to make a quick buck?
On a side note, there are also ‘National Months’ which come up, including ‘LGBTQ Month’ and ‘Black History Month,’ which many folks have various thoughts about, including Morgan Freeman, who believes we should celebrate the accomplishments of the black community every day so why pare it down to just a specific month? (to which I agree)
Anyway, it’s a crazy country we reside in, so live a little and go grab a Freeze Pop!
