According to reports, a 56-year-old woman was driving westbound on Canyon Ferry Rd in a pickup truck when she quickly came up upon another vehicle that was slowed down and looking to make a left-hand turn. In order to avoid plowing into the back of the vehicle, she swerved to the right and hit Addelyn Selvig, who was standing next to her bicycle along the side of the road with two friends.
According to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton, her father and others were quick on the scene and performed CPR on her. They took her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room. She was wearing a helmet, but it wasn’t enough to save her from the impact according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Amanda Villa, who said that after being hit she was thrown “quite a distance.”
Villa further noted that speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors, all the details would be sent to the Attorney’s office, where they will determine if charges would be filed.
