The following is a factual narrative written by a parent whose child attends Kalispell Middle School in Kalispell, MT. Following are quotes from other highly concerned citizens of Flathead County.
“I am frustrated and frankly disturbed by how the Kalispell Middle School handled itself at the 8th Grade field trip to Woodland Water Park.
It is not my intention to incite political debate or insinuate anything negative toward transgender individuals. I am open to many viewpoints. At the same time, I have to stand up for my student and many others who were put in a very uncomfortable situation.
The Kalispell Middle School allowed an eighth-grade student, born as a girl, to have their breasts exposed during the school function at the Woodland Water Park because the student identifies as a male. Only after other students complained did the school have the student put band-aids or tape over their nipples, with the breasts remaining exposed. Irrespective of whether the student identifies as male or female, the school allowed breasts (undeniably female anatomy) to be exposed at an eighth-grade school function.
This is the same middle school with a dress code prohibiting students from showing their mid-drift and requiring all undergarments, including bras, from being completely covered. But transgender students are permitted to expose their breasts at a school function? I am in favor of accommodating differing perspectives and values, but not to the detriment of other students. The conservative students deserve their rights and feelings to be considered too.”
Others chimed in with the following:
“My biggest concern would be what kind of adults and authority figures thought this was a good solution?? Breasts should be covered in public. Period. Would she have been allowed in Target without a shirt on?? No. If this child still has female anatomy, then the appropriate dress code should be upheld. What happens when a boy who identifies as a girl wants to wear a bikini? And where does it stop? Just because you identify as something does not physically make that so unless you have surgery. Who is leading, guiding, and watching our children and making these calls??? I’m appalled. Home school, anyone??
And again:
“If this girl had paraded down Main Street like this, couldn’t she have been arrested for indecent exposure? There is no excuse for the school’s demonstration of not just poor judgment but a complete lack of judgment. Enough already!
There’s more:
“I didn’t believe it at first but corroborated it with other students and parents. I would never have imagined… school isn’t denying it happened but claims equal protection is at issue. Then make everyone wear swim shirts!”
And furthermore:
“Those teachers should be fired. My granddaughter is in 6th grade there, and if I hear this keeps going on, I and others will be ready to fight this.”
