Influential Pastor Michael Catt Has Passed Away
Three weeks after megachurch Southern Baptist pastor Michael Catt announced on social media that he was entering palliative care following a difficult cancer diagnosis, his church announced he has passed away. He was 71.
Last month Catt chose to discontinue any further cancer treatment after a doctor found a tumor in his brain stem, with family saying the goal was to make him as “comfortable as possible through palliative care for the few months he has left this side of heaven.’
Catt was the long-time pastor at Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, before he retired in 2021. He’s perhaps best known for his role in founding Sherwood Pictures, which produced the films Fireproof, Courageous, and Facing the Giants. He also wrote several books to accompany his films, including Fireproof Your Life and Courageous Living.
Welcome home good and faithful one.
