Helena Child Rapist Sentenced to 110 Years in Prison, But Parole May Come far Sooner
Convoluted sentencing of predators comes to Montana
Convicted predator and child rapist Robert Michael Arellano was sentenced to 110 years in the Montana State Prison yesterday- a mercy to him given that he deserves a bullet to the back of the head or any other sort of timely execution.
Arellano was arrested and charged in 2020 after a young girl reported to police that her 10-year-old friend confided in her that she was being raped by her mother’s boyfriend- assaults which started when she was 8 years old, and which the scumbag even filmed with his cellphone on occasion, using sex toys in some scenes, which were later located and identified.
Found guilty by a jury in December 2021 after a brief 5-day trial and after only two hours of deliberations, he was convicted of 8 charges, including six counts of sexual intercourse without consent, one count of sexual abuse of a child, an done of witness tampering. Despite the long sentence, he is eligible for parole after 20 years.
While prosecutor Mary Barry requested 260 years in order to ensure that the 37-year-old never gets out, District Judge Kathy Seeley gave him 110, thus ensuring his eventual release may be a possibility.
For all 6 charges of sexual intercourse without consent, she gave him 100 years per charge, but then suspended 50 years from each one of them, ordered them to be served concurrently rather than consecutively, and then allowed him to be eligible for parole after 10 years. She did likewise with the other charges, save for having the 10-year parole be served consecutively, resulting in him having the chance to be free before he’s 60 years old.
