Evangelical Activist Ron Sider Has Died
Sider is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, their three children, and their families.
Evangelical social activist, professor and author Ron Sider has passed away at the age of 82, according to a message posted by his son.
Sider founded the group Christians for Social Action, and wrote several books: his most well-known being Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger: Moving From Affluence to Generosity.” He was known for decades of advocating for social issues and social issues, from poverty and anti-racism to climate justice and lobbying for legislation to make cars more fuel efficient. One of his last endeavors was being a founding signatory and member of ‘Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden.‘
This is a group that worked to get Joe Biden and Kamala Harris elected, believing that the Democrats’ overall agenda was more “biblically balanced” than the Republicans. Within months of Biden winning, they sent the administration an open letter expressing how “disappointed” and betrayed they were feeling by them. They believed Biden would more or less preserve the current state of pro-life legislation and have “open dialogue” with them about abortion issues and keep pro-life restrictions in place, rather than do what Democrats do and seek to have it further entrenched. Played for fools, they quickly shuttered the organization mere months after it began.
Sider is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, their three children, and their families.
