Christian Music Artist ‘Mandisa’ Passes Away at 47
Grammy award-winning Christian music artist and ‘American Idol’ alum Mandisa Lynn Hundley has passed away at the age of 47. Mandisa was found alone in her Nashville home deceased, but at this time, no further details are being provided. A 911 call regarding the incident has the dispatcher relaying “cardiac respiratory arrest” and that the patient was “dealing with obesity and depression”
The singer won a Grammy in 2014 for her album “Overcomer” but stayed out of the spotlight, not even appearing at the show to collect the trophy.
After a friend passed away she battled weight gain, depression, and suicidal thoughts for years, reemerging in 2017 to record her final album. She also wrote the book Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy in 2022, which details that time post-2014.
A message mourning her loss was posted to KLOVE by David Pierce:
“Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart. Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa’s struggles are over, she is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”
