Professing Christian actor Alan Ritchson, star of Amazon’s Reacher, has aired some of his political beliefs and clapped back at Christians for seemingly being too supportive of Trump, whom he describes as a “rapist” and “con man.”
It’s not the first time that Ritchson has criticized fellow believers. We wrote about it earlier this year in our article Christian Actor Alan Ritchson Takes Shots at Believers Criticizing Him for His ‘Reacher’ Role, where he took shots at Christians for judging him for playing the morally ambiguous role.
While we’d likely be included in his condemnation, we pointed out that many people’s concerns aren’t the character he plays but the fact that his hit show is 18+/ TV-MA in most countries and features a ton of cursing, foul language, graphic sex scenes, and visible nudity that Ritchson himself participates in.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, we read:
“I’m a Christian quite simply because of what Jesus calls us to do. Love other people until death. It doesn’t mean we’re all to be hung on a cross, but how can I suffer for you? That is a beautiful thing.”
That simple message, he says, has become twisted in today’s fraught political landscape.
“Christians today have become the most vitriolic tribe. It is so antithetical to what Jesus was calling us to be and to do,” he explains.
It also upsets him that some Christians have so closely aligned with former President Donald Trump.
“Trump is a rapist and a con man, and yet the entire Christian church seems to be treat him like he’s their poster child and it’s unreal. I don’t understand it.”
He also took shots at the Catholic church, which his mother is a member of:
It’s worth saying that the atrocities that are happening in the church that are being actively covered up, even to this day with people not being held accountable, is repulsive. I can’t for one second support the Catholic Church while there are still cardinals, bishops and priests being passed around with known pedophilic tendencies.”
I have read almost all of the Reacher books. I have not watched the Reacher TV show. I have not read anything in the books like what the TV show is showing. (ton of cursing, foul language, graphic sex scenes, and visible nudity) Which is why I don't watch the TV show.
