Breaking! South Carolina House Approves Abortion Ban Starting at Conception
The vote will now go to the Senate, where the GOP outnumbers the Democrats nearly 2-1
The Republican-controlled South Carolina House voted Tuesday evening 67-38 to prohibit most abortions from conception, only allowing exceptions for rape and incest up to 12 weeks, after which even they are prohibited. (Editor’s note; which is completely and inherently contradictory. Either it’s a baby being killed or it’s not)
The vote will now go to the Senate, where the GOP outnumbers the Democrats nearly 2-1. The bill is expected to pass, with Republican Governor Henry McMaster indicating his intent to sign the bill.
Earlier in the evening, a total ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape and incest was defeated 47 to 55. With the bill dead, those that championed it went into action, and after a series of complex parliamentary procedures, some of which involved getting conservative members to agree to these new exceptions, it was reintroduced with the amendments, allowing it to be voted on and passed.
