Baphomet-Destroyer Michael Cassidy Raises $20,000 in 3 Hours To Pay Legal Bills for ‘Hate Crime’
On Thursday, December 14, Michael Cassidy, a Christian, a self-described America First Conservative, walked into the Iowa capital building and smashed Baphomet, decapitating the idol before stuffing its head into a nearby trashcan.
In an interview with The Sentinel, Cassidy explained his motive for wrecking Baphomet.
“The world may tell Christians to submissively accept the legitimization of Satan, but none of the founders would have considered government sanction of Satanic altars inside Capitol buildings as protected by the First Amendment. Anti-Christian values have steadily been mainstreamed more and more in recent decades, and Christians have largely acted like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot of water.”
Cassidy promptly turned himself in to the capital police and was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a result of The Satanic Temple pressing charges. Not content with such a mild indictment, Lucien Greaves, the co-founder and spokesperson for The Satanic Temple, declared that destroying the statue was a hate crime and will likely be vying for that angle in court.
The Sentinel quickly set up a GiveSendGo fundraiser, and in less than 3 hours, Cassidy raised $20,000, suspending the campaign with the goal met.
