Andy Stanley Criticizes The SBC For Kicking Out Saddleback Church: “It’s Sick”
Andy Stanley has taken a shot at the Southern Baptist Convention over their treatment of Saddleback Church and former senior pastor Rick Warren, describing the decision to excise his church from the denomination as “sick” and an example of “prioritizing politics over mission.”
Stanley, who insists “I’m so theologically conservative I’m even politically conservative” despite being gay-affirming and having a church with dozens of gay-affirming pastors and church leaders while routinely undermining the authority of the bible, (see endnotes) says that the “progress” churches like his made to reach people over the last several decades is being “undermined and reversed like crazy right now.”
He says this is being done by “resurrecting old barriers that we spent years tearing down” and “adding new obstacles,” with his proof being the recent disaffiliation of Saddleback from the SBC over their insistence on having women pastors:
